HI
i, I am having a mmirena coil fitted tomorrow, It is a week before I start my period as I couldn't get it done any other time, I am worried it might come out when i have my period, i which case will my gp fit another straightaway? Also, how long is it till I am safe to have unprotected sex once the coil has been fitted? I would appreciate it if someone can help me asap!

coil are not so easy to insert in young women especially to those who have not had children yet. this could take effect immediately after being fitted that's what doctor's usually says.

yes doctor says that it's safe to have sex as soon as coil is fitted. but i've read some articles saying that it is not completely safe. it would be reasonable to wait for a week before trying.

it can stay in place for five years but it is adviced to have it checked once a year. in rare cases it could be lost during your period but don't worry there is
no much place it can go.

the thought of it losing inside is frightening for me. what if the doctor wont find it? will you have to go on surgery?
