Hi I am 47 yrs old and think I am strting to go through the menopuase, I hadnt had a period for 3 mths then about 2 wks ago had period pains and I had a little bleed for a couple of hours, then nothing until 2 days ago , started off normal bleed then yesterday very heavy had to change my tampon every hour and I had wear a pad also and that was full, I feel totally washed out today and its still the same. Havnt got anybody to ask advice dont know if I should go to see gp or is this what happens, feel really down.

I am new to the board but your message struck a cord with me so thought I would respond.
I started to have heavy periods,I am 53, didn't miss any but bled for 19 days every . After 9 months of suffering went to doctors and to cut a long story short they have found I have quite a few small fibroids. I had a mirena coil fitted a week ago and I cannot tell you how much better I feel. It is early days yet and I do not know if I will still have periods or not but I never realised how ill I felt until now.
My advice to you is to go to the doctors. Do not suffer for months,there is nothing worse than the draining feeling associated with heavy bleeding not to mention the cramps that usually go with it,

Hi, have just starting the same problem; even more irregular periods, then every few days a bit of spotting and some cramps. I'd welcome any suggestions too! Love to all women going through 'the change' x

I too can vouch for the mirena coil....for heavy periods it's fantastic!
