Qualitative hCG Test - to determine if hCG is present in the blood.

Quantitative hCG Test - measures the amount of hCG actually present in the blood.

So if hCG is present then you are most likely to be pregnant. Then with regards to quantitative hCG test, what is the purpose of knowing its amount?

Are you familiar with Beta HCG too?

Beta hCG is another term for Quantitative hCG test. The purpose for the quantitative is to be able to check if the hCG is increasing or decreasing and if the amount of hCG is enough to confirm the pregnancy.

It would also help diagnose ectopic pregnancy or monitor a mother who had undergone miscarriage or those who are having a failing pregnancy.
