Chromosomal Abnormalities... very common
Her_baby

Early pregnancy loss are commonly due to Chromosomal Abnormalities. It is unavoidable and there is nothing we can do about this. I observed that when this is the cause there is no further discussion. I feel like I need to know why this happens. I don't really understand this reason. Please share your views on this.

PrettyWoman

I was also told the same and I am waiting to see Professor Regan at St Mary's in London. What did you find out if anything since?

ldsbalentines

I was told the same thing when i lost my twins. I go to see my doctor for a follow up after my D&C next wednseday. I'm hoping that the Pathology lab will have told him something that will better help my husband and i better understand why this happened.

Lydia

It is very common but it has various causes. One cause is that there is something wrong with the baby's chromosomes. It has something to do also with a faulty egg or sperm.

Kirsten

Oh I see, so this means it can't be avoided? Lydia do you know causes of chromosomal abnormality?

Lipstick

No one really knows the exact cause of chromosomal abnormality. But there are observations that it seem to appear more frequently as the mother ages. It will also depend on what defects the chromosomes have.

Her_baby

Thanks for all your posts. It is really a broad topic and more on genetic issues. I would sometimes think that if there is no specific cause of a miscarriage, it would just end up as chromosomal problem.

Sally

Hello, I too was diagnosed for chromosomal disorder and couln't find exactly the real cause of such. So, if it is genetic, doed it mean that I got it from my parents? Is there a way of treating it and not be able to pass it to my children too?

Lydia

Sally and Kirsten- It has a lot of causes and it is mostly because of the mother's way of living or maybe the parents of the mother. It is very common because of the wide range of causes that affects it. Genetic cause is the most popular reason and it is seldom avoided and may be passed to our children.

PerryTim

For me, based on the name chromosomal, it would mean something to do with the chromosomes. It could be the number of chromosomes are more or less than the normal number.

SassyMom

What is the normal number of chromosomes? Can it be corrected through medications?

VANESSA

I THINK IT IS 46 AND WHAT I KNOW ABOUT CHROMOSOMAL ABNORMALITY IS THAT IT HAS VARIETY OF CAUSES AND THE MEDICATION TO CORRECT IT MAY DEPEND ON IT.

SassyMom

I see, this cause is too broad and yet so common among pregnant mothers. Is it easy to deal with?

VANESSA

THOUGH IT LOOKS LIKE A SIMPLE CAUSE BECAUSE OF ITS BEING COMMON, IT IS SO FRUSTRATING TO DEAL WITH SINCE THERE IS NOTHING WE DID THAT CAUSED SUCH TO HAPPEN.

SuReBabY

Yes, and there is also little we can do to prevent it. It has a lot of factors that resulted to the disorder. Being exposed to dangerous chemicals is one cause.

Haylee-blair

I see, so this disorder is also something that is caused by environmental factors. I thought it is just developed by the mother.

Xpressbaby

Yes, Haylee-blair that is why this cause is so broad and common.
