what i've understood about blighted ovum is that the fertilized egg attaches itself to the uterine wall and yet no embryo develops.what are the causes of this?

PerryTim - December 3rd, 2009 7:30 PM

Hi quo, it would still trace to chromosomal abnormality because the embryo stops to grow due to this defect.

quo - December 3rd, 2009 7:41 PM

but is that the only cause for it?what test do we need to detect such instance?

PerryTim - December 3rd, 2009 8:08 PM

it can be diagnosed through transvaginal ultrasound. A gestation sac may be detected but no embryo inside it.

thanks perry.any other causes aside from chromosomal abnormalities?

quo - December 3rd, 2009 8:26 PM

what are the things to do in order to prevent this state?

Bubbles0005 - December 3rd, 2009 8:30 PM

I am interested about this. What are the symptoms if we are encountering blighted ovum?

xXStephXx - December 3rd, 2009 10:17 PM

If this is so what will the procedure to use during the miscarriage, natural or with the d&c?

PerryTim - December 8th, 2009 9:07 PM

A lot of questions here... hehe... Well, I have no other idea of some causes aside from abnormal chromosomes. Possible symptom may be difficult to detect without using any medical equipments. You can choose to miscarry naturally or undergo a d&c.

Is hormonal imbalance be one of its cause?

PerryTim - December 14th, 2009 11:45 PM

I am not sure about hormonal imbalance maybe it has some contributing factor. But I don't think it is a direct cause if ever.

Is hormonal imbalance be one of its cause?

I don't think so because it more on the structural or physical development of the embryo and not on the issue of conceiving.

Lipstick - December 15th, 2009 10:41 AM

It is an empty gestational sac, some call it an accident of nature. It is generally a cause of an early pregnancy loss.

strawberry - December 16th, 2009 9:24 PM

so by the term "accident", does it mean it can be avoided or there are really causes that was done to reach such instance?

AileenMay - December 16th, 2009 9:44 PM

I think by accident, it means certain unexpected chromosomal abnormalities that caused such and eventually results to miscarriage.

VANESSA - December 17th, 2009 7:56 PM

THIS IS ONE CASE OF HAVING ABNORMAL CHROMOSOMES. THIS IS DIFFICULT BECAUSE IT IS TO DETECT WITHOUT HAVING TO UNDERGO MEDICAL PROCEDURES.

VANESSA - December 17th, 2009 7:58 PM

CORRECTION: "IT IS HARD TO DETECT"
