My bf has some little bumps on his lip. Few bumps are close together. Is it herpes or a cold sore? Does anyone have any idea? I am a bit embarrassed to ask him personally.

Don't be embarrassed. IF he really doesn't know what it is then at least accompany him to a doctor.

It is possible that the thing on his lip is just a canker sore. Given that he have never been with anyone that was infected with HSV-1
