All STD window periods
8 Replies
Leedsio - September 26

I'm going for a full round of tests next monday HIV, Syph, Chlam, Gon, Hep (all).

The other STD sections don't seem to provide conclusive window periods like this so can someone who knows for a fact tell me the window periods for Chlamydia and Gonorrea.

Gonorrhea and chlamydia will show up within 3-5 days, but I'd wait at least a full week. Syphilis can take up to a month.

HIV can take up to 3 months, but 90% of folks will show positive by the end of the first month.

Hep B can take 3 months. There is a vaccine for this, so talk to your doc and find out if its right for you to get. Hep A is spread in fecal matter (poop), so its not usually transmitted by sex, unless you have unprotected anal sex. Hep C is rarely spread sexually, so unless you have a sex partner who has hep c or uses (or has used) needles for drug use, or you do, you don't need to worry about hep c.

Herpes, which you didn't mention, can take up to 4 months, though 75% would show positive by 8 weeks. Ask your doc for a type specific IgG blood test, such as the herpeselect.

If you are female, ask about getting the HPV test done when you have your pap.

Are you sure that's right because Syphilis can take 3 months according to what a Doctor told me.

The main thing I want to know is the window period for chlamydia. For definite the one that is medically accepted.

3-5 days, but to be sure, a week is better.
