can a single ingrown hair (folliculitis) on the genitals last for a few weeks?

Sure, it depends on what bacteria is causing it, if you've been picking at it, etc. Since it has lasted this long, you should see your doctor.

i never picked at it, so can a single ingrown toenail hair last a few weeks only because of the type of bacteria causing it?

ally - September 11th, 2009 6:47 PM

Possibly. Why don't you go get this checked since you are obviously concerned?

rocknroll410 - September 12th, 2009 2:08 AM

by 'possibly' do you mean it's fairly commonCommon cold or rare or almost unheard of to last that long? i'll get tested in a few months but for now, if you don't mind, can you answer that? thank you.

It means that yes, it could happen. Folliculitis isn't an std, so I don't know all the specifics on it.

can an ingrown hair infected by the bacteria staphylococcus aureus last for a few weeks (3 weeks or more)?

ally - September 12th, 2009 2:55 AM

Yes

jtusher - September 13th, 2009 11:09 AM

sorry i don't mean to be a nuisance but it can last that long even without picking at it, right?

ally - September 14th, 2009 5:55 AM

Yes. Staph can last awhile, especially if you aren't treating it. See your doctor, hon. That's the only way you'll know what you have going on.
