PROTECTED sex transmission

rezzie7 - September 9

What are the transmission rates for vaginal sex with a properly used condom when it comes to HPV and Herpes? There seems to be a lot of mixed reviews on that. I understand it's still possible, but how possible?

Condoms reduce the risk of transmission of HPV by about 70%, and herpes about 50%.

I think it should be noted on answers to this question that that condoms do not make the risk 50%, but rather reduce the RISK by 50%. This is on top of the low chance transmission would take place without a condom, correct?

REDUCE the risk if the person was infected.

There is ALWAYS the chance. Herpes and HPV are from skin to skin contact and a condom doesn't cover every area of a man or woman. Condoms REDUCE the risk. These std's can also be spread through oral sex.

The best prevention of course is to each partner getting tested and a clear STD history the chance for std's will always be there.

I commend you on wanting to be more knowledgeable and learn more about this. It is ALWAYS a good idea to protect yourself. Condoms will REDUCE your risk of things like pregnancy and SOME STD's, but it will NOT eliminate it.

As you should know, not even pregnancy is 100% covered by condoms. You are even still at risk for contracting things like HPV (human papaloma virus) which can be to blame for some types of cervical cancer and genital warts, herpes, gonorrhea and of course the big one HIV.

If you use a condom correctly 100% of the time pretty much the only thing your at risk for is herpes..Trust me on this, I don't know what some of these other people are talking about but that's why they make condoms for protection
