Copper Coil and pain - help?!
Babble - June 16

Hi there,

I am on my 5th period after having a copper coil inserted. I am 22, and have no kids. I haven't heard of anyone else my age, childless, with a copper coil so I'm wondering if what I'm experiencing right now is normal!

To give a little background - I previously had a Nexplanon implant which I had to give up due to constant bleeding. I can't take a pill because I am such a busybody I end up forgetting, so the coil seemed like the best way to go. The implant also caused me to get an ovarian cyst due to a hormonal imbalance so I decided to stay away from any extra hormones and go for the copper rather than the mirena.

The insertion of the coil was much more painful than I was told it should be, and every period since the insertion has been horrific. I feel like my whole body is going to fall out of my vagina... (sorry, but thats the only way I can think to describe it) ... I have been at work and keeled over a few times in pain, which is quite difficult to explain to my boss, who is male. It feels like the pain is in my stomach AND "lower"..

It’s a sharp shooting pain followed by a dull aching pain that comes and goes and it has brought me to tears on multiple occasions.

The pain lasts for about 2 weeks of every month and I will bleed for 4 to 5 days during this time (very heavily)...surely this level of pain can't be normal? I have felt tempted to take the blasted thing out myself on several occasions!!

I have searched long and hard for ways to numb the pain. I have been prescribed various pain meds, I have tried heat packs and exercise, but have so far had no luck. People say it tends to go away after a year or so? My doctor told me 3 months... All I know is I can't go on like this anymore!

I would like to know is if there is anyone who is or has been in the same boat as me and if on earth do you cope?!

Any help or advice would be sooo very appreciated.

Thanks! :)
